[Daegu Travel] Where to visit? Daegu tourist spot #1 Seomun Market

Are you looking for where to visit in Daegu?

There are a lot of tourism spots in Daegu. As I was born in this city, I am absolutely confident to recommend you some best places in Daegu. This is the first recommendation.

<Seomun Market(서문시장)>

How to visit?

Address : 50, Dalseong-ro, Jung-gu, Daegu, Republic of Korea

Subway Station : Line 3 서문시장(Seomun market)

Bus Stop : 큰장네거리(Keunjang juction), 서문시장(Seomun market), 동산병원(Dongsan hospital) and more.

Today, I am going to introduce you a famous, huge traditional market. When I think of the word 'market', it sounds quite boring. However, traditional markets are always my choices when I go abroad. They are always different, unique, and exciting.

Seomun Market is the biggest market in this city, also one of the biggest traditional market in South Korea. I can find almost everything here. From groceries to fabrics. It has 6 complexes which are specialized in its own field. For example, complex 2(2지구) have fabric, and clothes.

I guess the most interesting part might be its food. You can try various street food here. Maybe every street food.

Tteokbokki, sundae, fried fish cake, hotteok, gimbap, bungeoppang, dumplings (떡볶이, 순대, 튀김, 어묵, 호떡, 김밥, 붕어빵, 만두) and more.

What I highly recommend is tteokbokki which is my favorite food. Especially this one.

As a tteokbokki lover, I have really high standard of its taste, I swear. You can try Really Good tteokbokki here. It's quite spicy though. Usually tteokbokki is sold with sundae, fried fish cake and dumplings. So it's a good new. You can have them all in once. It's 1,200 won per skewer regardless of the ingredients.

Next one is hotteok. It is fried bread with sugar inside. The most important thing is what's inside. Long long time ago, when it was first made, only sugar and cinamon powder was the ingredient. However in these days, it is developed. Some puts nuts, or even cheese inside. They taste even better! Still, lots of people love the original one. So I recommend you to try both because they are cheap.

For hotteok, I recomend this place. It always has long waiting line but waiting times doesn't take that long.

Original one is 1,000won, cheese one is 2,000won.

What I really want to do is introduce you "food", not a specific restaurant. Even though I introduce them, it's just optional. It will be much fun to find your own best restaurant in this market, but if you really don't get it then please refer to my recommendation.

Next, I want to introduce some unique taste of Daegu. Ingredients are not special but the way people cook or the shape is different.

Daegu is known for its delicious food. Flat dumpling(납작만두) is one of the signiture food of Daegu. Flat dumplings are literally flat because they don't have full ingredient inside. People enjoy them with its texture instead. If you eat them with soy sauce or tteokbokki sauce, you can find out why they are so famous. However, to be honesty I don't really enjoy flat dumplings because there are much more delicious food here.

Next one is fried fish cake with bean sprouts(콩나물 어묵). I know it sounds weird. Even now, I think it's weird food but it tastes really good. It seems very spicy because of its color but actually not. It tastes a little bit spicy and sweet for me. Its taste is milder than it looks like so don't be scary and just try it.

There are so many good food in Seomun Market. When you are walking down the street, you may want to eat what you confront at every moment. I hope you have fun in Seomun Market.

Before finishing, are you a fan of BTS? If you are, I have one more good news. Did you know that V is from Daegu? The elementary school he graduated is just next to Seomun market. There is a "V Street" next to the market. V mural street is 58m long.  It's not really a big tourism spot but if you are a fan of him, it can be a good place to take a photo shot.
