Today, I am going to introduce dongseong-ro(동성로), downtown of Daegu city.
<Dongseong-ro>
We call this whole area "dongseongro". It is a center of the city, also geographically in the middle of the city. So whereever you are, it's always convenient to go there by public transportation.
To be honest, I am not sure it's attractive spot to visit as a tourist, especially if you already visited Seoul. Daegu is one of the biggest cities in Korea but still there are bigger ones. Obviously its downtown is smaller than those of Seoul.
Department store, lots of restaurant and almost every kind of shops are located in dongseongro.
If you want to enjoy drinking and delcious food, dongseongro would be the best choice. I can give you more detailed information about it.
- In terms of bars & pubs
This is my personal opinion on each part.
1) 교동 : 20~30s, hip
This is my favorite place to drink. It is located just crossing the main street. There are many hip restaurants and bars. It is very energetic during night time. However there are also some fine dining restaurant also. When I think of this place, main visitors are in their 20~30s.
2) 종로 : all ages, casual
I think it has most comfortable atmosphere. You can find casual restaurants and bars where Korean love the most, like samgyeopsal(삼겹살). Very Korean style street with its food and the street itself. I can find people in all ages.
3) 삼덕동 : 30s~, calm
This place is also located next to dongseongro but has a different image. It is much more calm and little bit fancy. Of course there are still mamy casual bars and restaurants but you can also find some expensive ons. That's why the main visitors are older than dongseongro or gyodong. I like its cool mood.
4) 동성로 : 20s, youth
You can find clubs here at the center of dongseongro. Street is full of younger ones who just became legally adults. I used to like this place when I was teenager, and in early twenties but not now. For me, it's too noisy, smoky and crowd. However all of the hot places are here. They are even cheaper since the main guests are 20s.
